I am happy to announce the expansion into Interior Design and would love to talk with you about bringing in Maui Sea Glass and shells into your space.
Sirens, or mermaids, have always been a source of fascination in art and stories related to the sea. Inspired by another name for sea glass, Mermaid’s Tears, I decided to make the siren the hallmark of my sea glass gallery.
Each shard of sea glass is valued by its rarity of color and its origin. In Richard LaMotte’s popular book Pure Sea Glass, orange, red, turquoise, yellow, black, teal and gray are considered extremely rare where colors like citron, pink, aqua, cobalt and cornflower blue, opaque white, amethyst and purple are considered to be rare. Lime green, soft green, soft blue, forest green, golden amber, amber and jade are considered uncommon and the most common colors are white, brown and kelly green. Sea glass can be from antique bottles, rare vessels and tableware from all over the world.
Maui is a special place for sea glass because of our rich shipping and whaling history. We get the full spectrum, extremely rare to common colors.
My gallery features my own hand made window mosaics, carefully crafted from hundreds of pieces of unaltered, pure sea glass that I have personally collected over the past 30 years. It took man and nature many years to create the beautiful and unique gems that fill each mosaic. With light, each mosaic becomes a three dimensional kaleidoscope. I carefully choose each piece of sea glass for shape and color to create images inspired by nature. Never are any pieces cut or manipulated to complete a design. The technique I use is my own and each mosaic is etched with my signature initials and copyright.
The most common use for sea glass today is in jewelry. I’m proud to say I am carefully hand-wrapping, not drilling.
We have a growing inventory of accessories for your home and self, ranging from suncatchers and lampshades to keychains and wallets.
